We're partnering with a local government organisation in Melbourne's south east to recruit an experienced

HR Policy Writer for an immediate 2-month contract.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who can hit the ground running and produce high-quality HR policies and procedures in a fast-paced environment.

About the Role

Reporting to the Employee Relations Lead, you'll be responsible for reviewing, developing and updating People & Culture policies, procedures and frameworks to ensure they are compliant with legislation and aligned with best practice.

This is a hands-on writing role requiring someone who is efficient, highly organised and capable of producing a high volume of quality documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and update HR policies, procedures and related documentation.
  • Interpret and apply Australian employment legislation, including the Fair Work Act and industrial relations requirements.
  • Ensure all documentation is legally compliant, practical and fit for purpose.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to gather information and finalise documentation.
  • Support broader Employee Relations initiatives where required.

About You

  • Proven experience writing HR policies and procedures from the ground up.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation and industrial relations.
  • Exceptional written communication and document drafting skills.
  • Able to work independently and deliver high-quality work within tight timeframes.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Must have the ability to interpret legislation and develop policies manually. We are seeking someone with genuine policy-writing expertise rather than someone who relies on AI-generated content.
