Portfolio Electrical Lead

  • Based in Perth, WA
  • Hybrid role
  • Across Energy / Chevron Portfolio

Duties Include

  • Undertake engineering design and calculations (as necessary).
  • Prepare and/or review discipline hour estimates and deliverable lists in tenders, engaging with a discipline as required for review and validation (or Department Manager for larger scopes)
  • Provide overarching technical direction and governance on electrical engineering and design across the portfolio
  • Maintain discipline governance plans for the program.
  • Manage quality and consistency within the discipline.
  • Undertake Technical Peer Reviews and Spot Checks to support auditing and quality initiatives
  • Responsible for technical integrity and correct use of Worley processes and procedures across all projects
  • Working with the design lead to ensure resources are adequately allotted to projects
  • Provide discipline relation inductions to those new to the team
  • Responsible for understanding team skillsets, competency and capability to ensure correct tasks are allotted
  • Understand the learning and development needs of the team; support team members in their development plans
  • Provide regular performance feedback to your team members and escalate where necessary to the Department Manager
  • Assist the Department Manager to execute performance management plans for individuals as necessary
  • Support with client meetings and business development
  • Drive lessons learnt initiatives and support any root cause analysis of NCR responses in relation to projects in the portfolio
  • Hold regular team meetings with your team to understand resourcing, provide updates, uphold governance and support team needs
  • Establish relationships with key client contacts, other discipline portfolio leads, workshare counterparts and project delivery team
  • Identify resourcing needs and discuss with other portfolio discipline team leads to share resources (where required) and during times of underutilisation
  • Identify need to hire external resources to the DM if roles cannot be filled with Worley staff and when demobilisation may be necessary
  • Support in reviewing CVs and interviewing for external staffing or workshare team members
  • Support the Portfolio Engineering Manager in resolution of multi-discipline issues.
  • Work as a Project Lead on contracts other than Portfolio Lead role.

In a Project Lead Capacity

  • Prepare discipline hour estimates and deliverable lists in tenders, engaging a discipline peer for review and validation
  • Manage sequence of engineering tasks at a high level to ensure deliver according to project schedules (including activities by third party contractors)
  • Primary interface with customer for discipline-specific engineering issues
  • Manage interfaces within the discipline, with other disciplines and with third party contractors.
  • Provide technical direction, control and supervision for engineering and design on the project
  • Deliver the discipline’s design deliverables within schedule and budget
  • Maintain discipline task and deliverables lists for the project
  • Manage quality and consistency within the discipline
  • Coordinate change control and technical query process within the discipline
  • Manage discipline resources assigned to the project
  • Report progress of discipline deliverables
  • Resolve discipline technical issues
  • Maintain discipline files and follow the “Worley Way” processes
  • Coordinate design with other disciplines and squad checking deliverables

In Terms Of HSEQ Accountabilities

  • Deliver and promote safe and sustainable designs in accordance with Worley guidelines.
  • Ensure customer and statutory requirements (including HSE) are identified and incorporated in the design.
  • Ensure technical integrity of the discipline’s deliverables through the implementation of checking and design review activities.
  • Proactively seek an understanding of the safety hazards and risks associated with the asset lifecycle of the designed product, plant or structure and implement.
  • Ensure appropriate documentation is in place to satisfy OHS common law duty of care.

About You

To be considered for this role it is envisaged you will possess the following experiential attributes:

  • Tertiary qualifications with a 4-year Bachelor degree in Engineering majoring in Electrical Power or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 10 years technical experience in the Energy and Chemicals sector similar industry; including experience leading projects on a discipline level (Chevron experience highly desired).
  • Extensive experience (>6 years recent) in brownfield electrical systems modification detailed design and knowledge of instrumentation and control system interfaces.
  • Must have ability to manage across multiple projects.
  • Experience across all phases of engineering projects and demonstrates right to left thinking.
  • Excellent understanding of Australian electrical standards.
  • Hazardous Area Accreditation (highly desirable)
  • Strong understanding and proven experience in:
    • Equipment sizing, cable routing, equipment layouts, lighting design, earthing design, arc flash requirements and HV switchgear and MCC design.
    • Control system interfacing and instrumentation.
    • Electrical calculations required for design.
    • Protection systems and relay settings (overcurrent, earth fault, motors, VSDs).
    • Creation of design drawings such as SLDs, schematics, terminations, schedules, layouts.
    • Site experience such as scoping solutions, equipment inspections, construction and commissioning.
    • Witnessing and inspection of equipment during FATs, SATs.
    • Preparing ITPs, MTOs, datasheets, specifications, construction methodologies, philosophy documents, procurement requisitions and construction scope of works packages.
    • Input into electrical estimates and execution schedules.
    • Understanding of shutdown planning and considerations for design.

  • Strong technical experience, practical and leadership experience in the relevant discipline in the same or similar industry, including experience managing and leading brownfield projects and teams.
  • Highly effective organisational skills is a must including the ability to plan, set goals, prioritise, set accountabilities, manage schedule and budget.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills is a must including the ability to convey information and ideas to individuals and groups and effective technical document writing and grammar skills.
