We are recruiting on behalf of a regarded public health service in metropolitan Adelaide seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join its expanding Adult Community Mental Health team. About the Hospital
You will be joining one of South Australia's largest metropolitan public health services, providing comprehensive healthcare to a rapidly growing population of more than 400,000 people.
The network includes two major public hospitals with over 600 inpatient beds across acute and sub-acute services, delivering emergency medicine, surgery, maternity, paediatrics, oncology, rehabilitation, geriatrics, palliative care and specialised mental health services. The principal hospital is a major tertiary referral hospital, supported by a second large general hospital and multiple community health centres, allowing excellent collaboration across inpatient and community services.
About the Mental Health Service
The Adult Community Mental Health Service delivers specialist assessment, treatment and ongoing management for adults experiencing moderate to severe mental illness.
Working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychiatric registrars, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers and other allied health professionals, you will provide recovery-focused, evidence-based care that enables consumers to remain well within their community whenever possible.
The service maintains strong partnerships with inpatient mental health units, emergency departments, general practitioners and community organisations to ensure seamless continuity of care while promoting innovation, education and continuous service improvement.
The Role
As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:
- Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment for adult community mental health patients.
- Lead multidisciplinary case conferences and contribute to complex care planning.
- Provide clinical leadership, supervision and mentoring to junior medical staff and multidisciplinary clinicians.
- Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement and service development initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with inpatient units, primary care providers and community support services.
- Deliver high-quality, recovery-oriented and trauma-informed psychiatric care.

Requirements
To be considered you will have:
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), or
- Eligibility for Specialist Registration with AHPRA through an approved comparable specialist pathway.
- Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent).
- Current or eligible Specialist Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
- Experience working in Adult Community Psychiatry, General Adult Psychiatry or Community Mental Health Services.
- Excellent communication, leadership and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
- Commitment to recovery-oriented, patient-centred psychiatric practice.
International Psychiatrists Welcome
We welcome applications from overseas-trained Consultant Psychiatrists.
Candidates who hold the MRCPsych together with a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from the United Kingdom may be eligible for Australia's Expedited Specialist Pathway, allowing a significantly faster route to specialist registration without requiring a specialist college assessment.
