About the Role
We are seeking a Commercial Analyst to support linehaul network optimisation, fleet optimisation, and Delivery Partner cost management, based in Melbourne or Brisbane . This role plays a key part in driving commercial performance, improving efficiency, and maximising value to the P&L through strong financial insight, commercial analysis, and operational partnering.
Working closely with Operations, Fleet, Finance, Procurement, and Corporate Functions, you will deliver data-driven analysis that supports network optimisation, fleet performance, subcontractor cost management, cost governance, and improved financial discipline across the freight business.
Success in this role will require strong financial analysis, commercial judgement, and the ability to understand operational drivers and influence real business outcomes. Experience in professional services, including Big 4 or mid-tier accounting, advisory, consulting, commercial finance, operations, or a related commercial environment, will be highly regarded.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver commercial and financial analysis to improve linehaul network performance, fleet efficiency, utilisation, and P&L outcomes
Develop financial models to support pricing, forecasting, scenario planning, cost analysis, fleet optimisation, and network optimisation decisions
Analyse key cost drivers, including linehaul rates, fuel, fleet operating costs, repairs and maintenance, subcontractor costs, route performance, capacity utilisation, and supplier performance
Partner with Operations and Fleet to identify opportunities for route optimisation, improved network design, cost reduction, asset utilisation, and service improvement
Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service, cost, governance, and commercial outcomes
Support subcontractor rate reviews, benchmarking, cost validation, and commercial governance processes
Provide insights to support procurement, supplier, fleet, and Delivery Partner strategy
Act as a finance partner to Corporate Functions within a federated operating model
Support budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and FTE monitoring for Corporate Functions
Ensure accurate reporting, governance, and transparency of financial and operational data
Produce reporting packs with clear insights on cost trends, performance, risks, and improvement opportunities across linehaul, fleet, Delivery Partners, and Corporate Functions
About You
You are a commercially minded analyst who enjoys turning complex financial and operational information into practical insights that influence real business decisions. You are confident partnering with finance, fleet, and operational stakeholders and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
You may come from commercial finance, operations, professional services, advisory, consulting, or another commercially focused background. What matters most is your ability to understand business drivers, work with stakeholders, analyse data, and provide clear recommendations that improve performance.
You will bring
Experience in commercial finance, operations, analytics, advisory, consulting, professional services, including Big 4 or mid-tier accounting, or a related commercial environment
Strong financial modelling, Excel, and data analysis skills
Ability to interpret complex financial and operational data and translate it into clear, actionable insights
Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Commercial judgement, curiosity, and the confidence to ask the right questions
Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, cost analysis, performance reporting, or operational improvement
Experience with transport, logistics, supply chain, fleet, subcontractor costs, or supplier cost structures is beneficial but not essential
Deep operational knowledge, business experience, and established stakeholder relationships will be highly valued
Experience supporting organisational change, transformation, or continuous improvement is desirable
