GIS Specialist
Role Overview
Reporting to the Head of Project Development and/or Lead – Planning and Environment, and working as part of the wider team, the GIS Specialist will work alongside origination, development, construction, and asset management teams.
The role is responsible for producing and managing accurate maps and project databases, maintained within a robust GIS information system for individual assets and the broader portfolio.
The GIS Specialist will be part of a 25-person team covering Australia for Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners and will ensure the efficient and effective visual communication of PEP and QIP assets as required.
This role involves managing and analysing geographic data to support a range of organisational projects and initiatives. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining GIS databases, managing data files, producing maps and spatial analyses, and providing technical support for GIS applications.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide a high-quality GIS service aligned with the needs of various projects
• Offer detailed professional advice on GIS-related matters
Data Management
• Collect, manage, and maintain geographic data from multiple sources
• Ensure data accuracy and integrity
• Implement data standards and best practices
Fieldwork Data Preparation
• Develop and configure maps and datasets in ArcGIS Field Maps
• Support efficient offline field operations WebGIS Administration
• Manage and maintain the ArcGIS Online environment, including: Licences, Credits, Web maps, Data
• Ensure reliable system performance and smooth daily operations
Mapping and Visualisation
• Create high-quality maps and visualisations to support decision-making
Technical Support
• Provide training and support for GIS applications and tools
• Troubleshoot and resolve GIS-related issues
Project Collaboration
• Work closely with internal teams and stakeholders to understand GIS requirements
• Deliver tailored solutions
• Participate in project planning and implementation
Spatial Analysis
• Conduct spatial analyses to identify patterns, trends, and relationships
• Present findings clearly and concisely
Documentation
• Document GIS processes, methodologies, and workflows
• Maintain accurate records of data sources and analysis
Training
• Provide training to team members on: GIS platforms, Field Maps, Relevant data tools
Experience Required
• 5+ years’ experience in spatial modelling and GIS services
• Proficiency in Esri products and spatial analysis tools
• Ability to lead GIS service delivery with minimal technical direction
• Knowledge of renewable energy infrastructure and environmental planning regulations in Australia
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Familiarity with Python, R, or other scripting languages for geospatial automation (desirable)
• Experience with: Remote sensing, Spatial databases, Open-source GIS data, Data visualisation platforms
• Willingness to travel to sites or offices as required
• Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, or a related field
