Senior Network Engineer | Canberra, ACT

We're seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join a leading Federal Government client in Canberra. This is an exciting opportunity to design, implement and support enterprise network infrastructure while contributing to modern cloud and critical technology initiatives.

Role Details

Eligibility: Australian Citizenship required

Security Clearance: Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1) .

Start Date: 21 July 2026 (Approx.)

Contract Duration: Initial contract to 30 June 2028 + 1 x 12-month extension

Work Arrangement: Primarily onsite in Canberra. Hybrid working arrangements may be considered based on business requirements.

Experience Level: Senior (EL1 equivalent)

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement and support enterprise network infrastructure.
• Monitor, maintain and optimise highly available, resilient network environments.
• Configure, administer and troubleshoot enterprise switching, routing and network services.
• Support hybrid cloud networking and multi-vendor infrastructure environments.
• Analyse and resolve complex network incidents, outages and performance issues.
• Implement network security best practices, patching and infrastructure hardening.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and technology partners to deliver infrastructure initiatives.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, standards and operational procedures.
• Monitor network capacity, utilisation and performance to ensure optimal service delivery.
• Contribute to infrastructure architecture, technology roadmaps and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across projects.

Skills & Experience

We're looking for professionals with experience in:

• Enterprise network design, implementation and operational support.
• Layer 2 networking technologies including VLANs, Trunking and Spanning Tree.
• Enterprise switching and routing.
• Modern cloud networking technologies and hybrid cloud environments.
• Network monitoring, optimisation and performance tuning.
• Network security, device hardening and patch management.
• Troubleshooting complex enterprise networking environments.
• Communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Building strong relationships with internal teams, vendors and technology partners.
• Managing competing priorities while delivering high-quality outcomes.

Highly Desirable

Experience with one or more of the following:

• Firewalls
• Dynamic Routing Protocols (BGP, OSPF)
• DNS and DHCP
• DWDM optical networking
• Layer 4–7 application troubleshooting
• Infrastructure architecture and technology roadmaps
• Enterprise infrastructure strategy and governance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline; or
• Equivalent industry experience with relevant vendor certifications such as Cisco (CCNP/CCIE), Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Microsoft Azure or AWS Networking.
