About the Role

As an Experienced Maintenance Employee within our Sporting Reserves team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and enhancing high-quality sporting facilities across the municipality. This hands-on role involves the use of specialised turf management equipment and techniques to maintain natural and synthetic playing surfaces to a high standard.

You’ll undertake a variety of duties including mowing, fertilising, irrigation management, and the application of chemicals for weed, pest and disease control. With a strong focus on quality and safety, you’ll contribute to the preparation and upkeep of sports grounds, including turf wicket, ensuring they meet performance and community expectations.

This is a dynamic role where no two days are the same, staff are deployed across various locations based on operational priorities. You’ll work both independently and collaboratively, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and support broader maintenance activities across the City Presentation team when required.

Working hours will be from 7:00AM - 4:00PM with 9-day fortnight, although you may be required to participate in emergency overtime works as required. Workdays will be starting and concluding at Latrobe City Council’s depot at Driffield Rd, Morwell.

About You

You are an experienced and motivated maintenance professional with a strong background in sports turf or open space management. You bring hands-on expertise in operating a range of turf maintenance equipment and a solid understanding of current industry practices, including turf care, irrigation systems, and safe chemical application.

You’re reliable, adaptable, and take initiative, with the ability to prioritise tasks and respond to changing work demands. Your communication skills enable you to interact effectively with colleagues and the community, and you are committed to providing excellent customer service.

You will have

  • Certificate III in Sports Turf Management desirable or substantial relevant experience working within sports turf management or maintenance of high-quality open spaces.
  • A high level of knowledge in respect to current practices and industry standards relating to the preparation and maintenance of sports turf.
  • Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety requirements in relation to sports turf maintenance and machinery operation.
  • Current Victorian Driver’s License
  • Current Chemical Users License
  • Construction Induction (White Card)
  • Current Heavy Rigid Vehicle License (preferred)
  • Current First Aid (preferred)
  • Current Traffic Control and Worksite Management Certificate (preferred)
