About the Role:⁣

We are seeking passionate and dedicated Peer Mentors looking for flexible casual work to support individuals with disabilities in building independence, developing social connections, and enhancing their everyday lives. This is a great opportunity for students or those seeking additional work hours. As a Peer Mentor, you will provide 1:1 support, facilitating participants in achieving their NDIS goals, and assisting with transport to activities that support their development. You will play a crucial role in fostering independence, confidence, and meaningful engagement in the community.⁣

⁣Key Responsibilities:⁣

  • Provide person centred support to participants, fostering independence and confidence.⁣
  • Assist participants in engaging with social and community activities.⁣
  • Support skill development in areas such as budgeting, social skills, and daily living.⁣
  • Encourage participants to work towards their NDIS goals.⁣
  • Provide transport using your personal motor vehicle to support participants' community access and goal achievement.⁣
  • Communicate with participants and their nominees through various communication methods, including email, face-to-face, mobile phone, and SMS, using your personal device.⁣
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisors through email, meetings, and phone contact.⁣
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including case notes and work hours, in accordance with organisational policies.⁣
  • Collaborate with participants, families, and other team members to provide holistic support.⁣
  • Adhere to the NDIS Code of Conduct and organisational policies.⁣

⁣Occupational Health & Safety:⁣

  • ⁣Report all hazards and incidents to your direct supervisor within 24 hours of occurrence.⁣
  • Carry out all duties with proper care and consideration for the safety of yourself, participants, and other staff members.⁣

Other Responsibilities:⁣

  • ⁣Commit to working collaboratively in a team environment.⁣
  • Adhere to all enacted policies, procedures, and work practices.⁣

What We’re Looking For:

  • Minimum 15 hours per week availability
  • Happy with a gradual increase in hours, pending participants referrals
  • Passion for supporting people with disabilities, preferred if you have lived or professional experience in disability, mental health, or community services ⁣
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills⁣
  • Ability to build rapport and foster meaningful relationships⁣
  • Understanding of person-centred support and strengths-based approaches⁣
  • Capacity to take initiative and guide shifts with a focus on participant outcomes⁣
  • Ability to work independently while being a proactive team member⁣
  • Reliability, patience, and commitment to making a positive impact⁣
  • Willingness to engage in ongoing professional development and training⁣
  • Flexibility to adapt to ever-changing circumstances on shift⁣
  • Proactive approach to tasks and responsibilities⁣
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including confident and clear telephone communication⁣
  • Ability to build positive relationships across diverse groups⁣
  • Proficiency in using necessary Information Technology systems⁣
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills that promote approachability and trust⁣
  • Composure and sound decision-making in challenging situations⁣

Essential Requirements:⁣

  • ⁣Valid Australian driver’s licence and own a reliable vehicle.⁣
  • Ownership of a mobile phone⁣
  • Capacity to work 10-20 hours per week on a casual contract⁣

Desirable:⁣

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (must be willing to obtain).⁣
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC, must be willing to obtain).⁣
  • Current First Aid & CPR Certificate. (must be willing to obtain)⁣
  • Interest in obtaining Certificate III, IV, or Diploma in Disability, Mental Health, Community Services, or a related field.⁣
  • Experience supporting individuals with disabilities or mental health challenges.⁣
  • Basic understanding of the NDIS and its frameworks.⁣
