DIRECTOR OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY
Lester Blades - Executive Search & Board Advisory
The Organisation
Methodist Ladies’ College has educated young women from Early Learning through to Year 12 since 1907. Set on a single campus on the Swan River in Claremont, MLC combines academic rigour with a genuine commitment to developing the whole person. The College is guided by its Shaping Futures strategic plan, which positions MLC as a leader in contemporary teaching, wellbeing and innovation among independent schools in Western Australia. The College is governed with care and led with purpose, investing in the people and capabilities needed to deliver on its ambitions for students. This appointment reflects that commitment.
The Position
The Director of Digital Technology is a senior executive role reporting directly to the Principal/CEO. It is responsible for the full scope of information and learning technology at MLC, from day-to-day infrastructure and operations to long-term digital strategy, cybersecurity, AI governance and the integration of technology into the educational experience. The role also provides strategic and operational oversight of the College Library.
This is not a steady-state technology management role. MLC aims to transition its ILT function to a proactive, strategically led service trusted across the College community.
The incoming Director will lead that shift, with key priorities including:
- Developing and owning a multi-year IT strategy and roadmap
- Resolving platform governance and decision rights between ILT and the Learning and Teaching team
- Leading a significant uplift in cybersecurity posture and business continuity
- Building a coherent, responsible approach to AI in education
- Leading the ILT team towards a service-led, professionally accountable model
- Integrating Library services with the College’s broader technology ecosystem
About You
You are currently operating at, or have recently operated at, the CIO, IT Director, Head of Technology, or General Manager level. You have built or transformed a technology function and have the track record to demonstrate it.
Your governance credentials are substantial. You have a proven ability to establish clear frameworks, define ownership and bring structure and confidence to technology decision-making across a complex organisation. Stakeholders trust your judgment and look to you for clarity.
On cybersecurity, you bring more than awareness. You have led a meaningful uplift in cybersecurity posture, you know what good looks like, and you are comfortable presenting cyber risk clearly and credibly to a Board.
You communicate at the executive level without translation. The Principal, the Board, and the senior leadership team will rely on you to make technology legible: not to simplify it, but to frame it in terms that drive sound decisions.
Experience at an independent school or educational institution is not required but is well regarded. What matters is genuine curiosity about the role technology plays in the lives of students and educators, and a service orientation that earns trust within a community that holds its leaders to a high standard. A current Working with Children Check, or the ability to obtain one prior to commencement, is required, as is the right to work in Australia.
