The Opportunity
As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for guiding complex systems through their entire lifecycle, from capturing initial requirements and architecting the design, to overseeing integration, testing, evaluation and sustainment. You will be the technical 'glue' that ensures all pieces fit together to solve critical enterprise and mission needs. Working within talented multi-disciplinary teams, your role will be to integrate a diverse range of infrastructure technologies, including software defined networking, enterprise systems and cloud platforms. The capabilities you deliver will range from small-scale, bespoke solutions to some of Australia's largest and most complex enterprise systems.
ASD 4 Systems Engineers
- Contribute to the development and management of system requirements by performing analysis and documenting findings.
- Assist in the creation of systems engineering documentation including system requirements and specifications, interface descriptions, verification and validation plans.
- Execute predefined test procedures and document results to support system verification and validation activities.
- Accountable under routine direction to perform and achieve moderately complex systems engineering work within an integrated workforce.
- Accountable for organising their workflow and seeking advice where required to make decisions relating to their area of responsibility.
- Apply technical engineering knowledge and experience, understand priorities to research, define issues, and suggest corrective actions.
ASD 5 Systems Engineers
- Take ownership of system design and analysis, ensuring requirements are met and interfaces are clearly defined.
- Develop and manage key systems engineering artefacts, including requirements specifications, design documents, and Verification and Validation (V&V) plans.
- Conduct trade studies on competing technical solutions and present findings to support decision-making.
- Accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex systems engineering work within an integrated workforce.
- Accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility.
- Apply technical engineering knowledge and experience, understand priorities to research, define issues, and implement corrective actions.
ASD 6 Systems Engineers
- Take ownership of system design and analysis, ensuring requirements are met and interfaces are clearly defined.
- Develop and manage key systems engineering artefacts, including requirements specifications, design documents, and Verification and Validation (V&V) plans.
- Conduct trade studies on competing technical solutions and present findings to support decision-making.
- Accountable under limited direction to perform and achieve complex systems engineering work within an integrated workforce.
- Accountable for organising their workflow and making independent decisions relating to their area of responsibility.
- Apply technical engineering knowledge and experience, understand priorities to research, define issues, and implement corrective actions.
- Manage workflows, resources, prepare work area and team plans detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes.

- Industry experience, formal training or a particular domain expertise.
- Ability to tailor your communication style to effectively engage various audiences.
- The ability to be work flexibly and independently, as well as within a team.
- Capacity and discipline to build and manage systems in accordance with ASD’s high standards.
- Have some experience in producing project documentation.
- Have some experience in producing formal systems engineering documentation.
