Working from our brand new, state-of-the-art studios in Sydney, you’ll be part of a modern production hub designed for the next era of news and opinion television. This is an exciting time to join one of the leading newsrooms in the country, known for producing some of the best and most talked-about opinion shows.
Senior TV Producers within the Programs team are a key member of staff who will help build and drive the elements required for a host-led opinion program. This includes close and constant collaboration with the host and Executive Producer on story selection, booking compelling guests, and shaping the visual and editorial direction of each episode.
You’ll be working in a dynamic environment where editorial decisions are made in real time, and where creativity, speed, and judgement are essential. With the network soon to be rebranding to News24, there are significant opportunities ahead as the business evolves and expands its reach, making this an exciting moment to come on board.
Key Responsibilities
- Help drive a small team to put together a unique program with a wide variety of topical news, politics and current affairs stories to build a show packed with compelling content.
- Work closely with our fearless opinion hosts, helping them create a show that drives ratings and sets the agenda.
- Learn from our talented Executive Producers, with an eye to step into their shoes when required.
- Compile rundowns and output shows live from the control room, communicating with pilots, TDs, host, reporters and guests
- Book guests and studios and manage talent in the newsroom, finding fresh faces where possible.
- Use our editing software to cut grabs and overlay to add depth to our programs.
- Build attractive graphics to complement arguments put forward by our hosts.
- Meet the quality control standards expected by Sky News and comply with company policies.
- Work to ensure your content is legally safe and complies with the broadcasting codes.
- You will be exposed to all the best bits of television production - leadership, creativity, writing, chasing, talent management and much more
Who are you?
- Must have solid newsroom experience and an ability to master software to produce TV programs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with everyone from politicians of all persuasions, to CEOs, contributors and colleagues.
- Must have a very good knowledge of Australian politics and current affairs, and a good understanding of news events occurring elsewhere in the world.
- Proficiency in Frame Light X, our editing software, and ENPS, the system we use to compile rundowns would be ideal. Training will be provided regardless.
- Needs to be able to write headline straps that are eye-catching and unfailingly accurate.
- Should be able to write mini editorials which include grabs, and frame questions for host and panellists.
- Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Must be willing to learn and adapt to new working practices and contribute to new programs.
- Ability to work independently when required and to carry out assignments that are not part of the day to day routine.
- Previous experience in TV or radio broadcasting a requirement.
- Work in the office is required.
- Healthy knowledge of Sky News products essential.
- Working hours may vary at times according to show demands.
- Understanding of broadcasting codes and relevant laws. Legal training will be provided.
