The opportunity

As a Governance Officer at Hobsons Bay City Council, you’ll take ownership of key statutory governance processes that underpin Council decision-making. You’ll actively manage governance frameworks, advise on legislative requirements, and ensure the integrity of Council’s records and compliance activities. Working closely with Councillors, Executives and internal stakeholders, you’ll be at the centre of how Council operates, helping to uphold transparency, accountability and best practice across the organisation.

What you’ll do

  • Provide expert governance and integrity advice across the organisation.
  • Coordinate Council meetings, briefings and committee processes.
  • Maintain governance registers, policies and statutory records.
  • Oversee key compliance processes (delegations, interest returns, reporting).
  • Drive governance improvements, research and policy development.

What you need to succeed

  • Experience in governance, compliance, integrity or public sector roles.
  • Strong knowledge of the Local Government Act 2020.
  • Excellent written communication (reports, minutes, advice).
  • High attention to detail with strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Pre-Employment Requirements
