Finance Business Partner

Position reports to: Finance Director, APAC

Location: North Sydney

Key Focus Areas the Role Will Include

A. Safety, Health and Environment

  • Commit to maintaining a safe system of work in the workplace.

  • Contribute to building the culture of safety and environmental responsibility by considering own safety and the environment at a personal level and instigating or being actively involved in safety and/or environmental initiatives.

B. Planning

  • Provide analytical business plan reviews

  • Ensure sales volume are aligned with production capabilities

  • Converting business initiatives into operating plan and budget target setting

  • Support effective business decisions in line with Graymont strategy and business objectives

  • Detailed understanding between budget, forecast and actual business performance

  • Assist directors and plant managers by providing an understanding of gap analysis between budget and actual performance

  • Support business managers to identify and quantify opportunities and risks

  • Translate business initiative into forward business performance targets

C. Analysis

  • During the month assist directors and plant managers understand key drivers for business performance

  • Challenge the business by raising queries and/or analysis regarding cost and revenue drivers enabling improvement initiatives

  • Undertake analysis that will enable support business decisions

  • In collaboration with the Logistics and Operations team, support and influence the lowest cost to serve analysis to customer.

  • In collaboration with the logistics team, support the supply chain analysis to optimize product margin.

D. Accounting & costing

  • Perform overview of cash gross margin validation at month end

  • Successful manage and support the delivery of month end result in line with finance reporting timeline

  • Oversee JD Edwards entries for sites within your responsibility; investigate and correct entries where required for production, sales, stock, purchases and freight

  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of all accounting entries in all accounting systems for the sites within your region and assist with general ledger coding

  • Compile monthly management reports in line with the finance reporting timeline

  • Maintain the integrity of the fixed asset register for all sites within your region by managing the asset administration on a timely basis (transfer / disposal / acquisition / verification / Construction Work-In-Progress)

E. Strategy & Investment

  • Prepare financial feasibility assessments for investment proposals

  • Review capex proposal for accuracy and completeness

  • Challenge and test assumptions used by project teams to prepare business case

  • Translate investment opportunities into business performance target

F. Business Partnering

  • Act as a trusted partner to leaders across APAC

  • Challenge assumptions, validate forecasts, and guide teams through financial implications

  • Deliver strong storytelling — bringing stakeholders on the journey with clear rationale

G. Other duties

  • Duties may be varied from time to time consistent with the employee’s training and skills and such varied duties are to be performed to standards that will be specified as required.

Qualifications

  • An appropriate degree in accounting.

  • 4 to 6 years practical financial and management accounting experience in a manufacturing and/or mining environment

  • CA or CPA qualified if necessary.

Experience & Technical Skills

Essential Skills

  • Advanced user of MS Excel

  • Experience in dealing with large volumes of transactional data

  • Good communication – verbal and written

  • Experience with a large, fully integrated ERP system preferably JD Edwards

  • An ability to switch between detailed analysis and the big picture view as required

  • An ability to work with people as part of a team and form good working relationships with accounting and operational staff

  • Participate effectively in a multidisciplinary team, contributing to achieving tasks and timeliness
