Boilermaker

As Birdon continues to grow, so too does our team. We are looking for qualified Boilermakers to join our team in Port Macquarie, NSW!

Key Accountabilities

The key accountabilities for this role include:

• Studying engineering and design drawings and specifications to determine job requirements
• Selecting, cleaning and preparing metals
• Cutting marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches and metal cutting machines
• Shaping and bending metal sections and pipes using hand and machine tools, and by heating and hammering
• Aligning parts to be joined using hand tools and measuring instruments
• Joining metal sections using various welding techniques
• Examining welds for width of bead, penetration and precision
• Perform welds in accordance with documented weld procedures meeting Australian Standard, and Class Society requirements
• Diagnosing issues and performing maintenance and repairs as directed by Supervisor within worker’s capability
• Finishing, cleaning and smoothing welds by polishing, grinding, filing, etc.
• Maintaining a clean, tidy, productive work environment
• Active participation in daily toolbox talks
• Working harmoniously with team and other Birdon employees and contractors
• Performing all duties to a high quality in a timely, efficient, and safe manner

Qualifications / Skills / Experience

Essential

• Trade Qualification (Cert III Engineering – Fabrication or equivalent)
• 3 Years experience working in a similar role
• Ability to read and interpret design and engineering drawings.
• Strong attention to detail
• Able to work in a team and autonomous at times
• Construction white card
• Drivers Licence
• Service-oriented team player with a “make it happen safely” attitude

Desirable

• Experience working in Marine Industry
