The City of Canning is transforming Whaleback into one of Western Australia’s premier golf and hospitality destinations and we’re looking for a talented Sous Chef to join us on that journey.
With over $8 million in major upgrades underway, this is a rare opportunity to be part of a venue reinvention from the inside.
About the role
As Sous Chef, you’ll be the right hand to the Head Chef and play a key role in delivering a high-quality, modern food offering across Tales Bar & Eats, Driving range food outlets and entertainment bays, Private functions and events, Café-style and casual dining services
You’ll support a Mediterranean-inspired food concept, with strong European and French influences, while helping bring consistency, creativity, and operational excellence across a multi-outlet venue.
A snapshot of your new role
- Leading kitchen service and ensuring food quality, presentation, and timing
- Supporting menu development, seasonal changes, and cost control
- Training and mentoring chefs, cooks, and kitchen hands
- Managing prep, stock control, and kitchen systems
- Collaborating with front of house and broader Whaleback teams
- Supporting functions, events, and high-volume service periods
- Stepping up to manage kitchen operations in the Head Chef’s absence
What you will bring to the role
- Completed a Chef’s apprenticeship, Certificate 3 in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Chef de Partie or 3 years as a Junior Sous Chef (or similar) in a large scale licensed hospitality venue.
- Strong previous experience in Mediterranean cuisine, with a particular focus on French culinary techniques, flavour profiles, preparation methods, and presentation standards.
- Professional background in French and European cooking, supporting the venue’s culinary direction and Mediterranean-inspired concept. Experience in a range of function work
- Experience writing a 7-day week roster in line with workplace demands and budgeted targets
- Food SafetySupervisor Training (for compliance with Food SafetyStandards 3.2.2A)
- Current Satisfactory National Police Clearance and Working with Children card (or willingness to obtain).
- Level 2 First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).
