Project Accountant

An exciting opportunity has presented itself for a Project Accountant located in Perth WA to join the Downer team.

The opportunity

Downer is seeking a commercially astute Project Accountant to partner with project and operational teams across a growing Energy & Utilities portfolio. This role is critical in delivering accurate reporting, strong financial control, and improved project outcomes.

What you'll do

• Business partner with Project Managers to deliver financial outcomes and project performance insights
• Manage month-end reporting, forecasting, and budgeting cycles
• Ensure accurate WIP, billing, cost and revenue tracking
• Provide variance analysis, profitability insights, and EAC forecastingMonitor and enforce financial controls, Governance & Delegations of Authority
• Support cash flow management and working capital optimisation
• Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and performance analysis
• Drive continuous improvement across financial processes and reporting

What we're looking for

• Tertiary level qualification in Accounting, Finance or Commerce (CA/CPA highly regarded)
• Experience in project accounting within construction, utilities, or infrastructure
• Strong understanding of contract environments and project financials
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems (SAP, JDE or similar)
• Strong stakeholder engagement and ability to influence project teams
• Ability to manage tight deadlines in fast-paced project environments
