Works for Me – where you experience Care, Connection and Community

Based on the stunning coastline at Hay Point, this is your opportunity to step into a critical operational role where you can make a real impact—while still being home after every shift.

At Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT), we are more than a world-class operator—we are a workplace built on Care, Connection and Community. We care about your safety, wellbeing and life outside of work. You’ll be part of a connected team delivering essential outcomes for the global supply chain, while remaining deeply grounded in the local community.

Located just 38km south of Mackay, DBCT operates one of the world’s leading coal export terminals, with a nameplate capacity of 85 million tonnes per annum. None of this is possible without great people—people just like you.

The Opportunity

As a Shipping Officer, you’ll play a vital role in coordinating the safe and efficient turnaround of vessels—directly contributing to the performance and reliability of the terminal.

Working at the ship-to-shore interface, you’ll operate in a dynamic and technical environment where safety, precision and collaboration are critical. From vessel vetting and documentation to coordinating loading and sailing activities, your work will ensure operations run smoothly and efficiently in line with Terminal Regulations.

This is a hands-on role that provides variety, challenge, and the opportunity to make a measurable impact every day.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Coordinating safe and efficient berthing, loading and sailing of vessels
  • Managing shipping documentation and ensuring compliance with Terminal Regulations and legislative requirements
  • Conducting vessel vetting and verifying cargo allocations
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. agents, pilots, tugs and planners)
  • Collaborating across teams to optimise vessel schedules and respond to operational changes
  • Monitoring weather and operational risks to support safe decision-making
  • Identifying opportunities to improve shipping and vessel management processes

What You’ll Bring

You thrive in a fast-paced operational environment and take pride in delivering safe, efficient outcomes. You bring strong technical capability, sound judgement and a collaborative mindset.

  • Experience in maritime operations or bulk loading environments
  • Strong understanding of safety and compliance frameworks
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to work a rotating roster across days, afternoons and nights
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, make sound decisions, and stay focused in a dynamic operational environment
  • Eligibility to obtain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
