Primary objective
The primary objective of the Asset and Ledger Services officer is to provide a professional client service by accurately
recording, reconciling and reporting on functions undertaken in the Fixed Asset and General ledger work area.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Create and maintain fixed assets and general ledger accounts in accordance with financial management procedures and
policy.
2. Perform daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations for sub ledgers and the general ledger.
3. Provide an effective advisory service to clients and stakeholders, through the proficient use of various communication
modes and systems.
4. Prepare and deliver regular agency reporting in an accurate and timely manner ensuring system integrity is maintained.
5. Actively participate in continuous improvements and best practise through contributing innovative ideas and solutions.
6. Ensure assets are physically controlled and appropriately recorded by organising and conducting scheduled stock-takes
via certification and reconciliations aligned to best practice.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated understanding of accounting systems in a large, diverse organisation, in particular Fixed Assets and
General Ledger, including creating and maintaining ledgers.
2. Proven skills in maintaining assets in a Fixed Asset module, including knowledge of the Accounting of Leases in
accordance with Australian Accounting Standards.
3. Demonstrated reconciliation skills, including accuracy and attention to detail with a proven well-developed ability to
analyse and interpret complex accounting issues whilst applying current legislation and relevant standards.
4. Proven ability to work independently and part of a team demonstrating an ability to share knowledge and provide training.
5. Demonstrated high level oral and written communication skills in a manner that is clear to the recipient. Proven ability to
write and update standard operating procedures.
6. Proven Advanced Excel skills demonstrating the ability to input, manipulate, retrieve and transfer data accurately. Utilise
Reporting software to perform data integrity checks and reconciliations.
7. Demonstrated work ethic and personal attributes consistent with DCDD values of commitment to service, innovation,
ethical practice, accountability, impartiality, diversity and respect.
Desirable
1. Knowledge and understanding of relevant legislation including but not limited to, the Financial Management Act,
Treasurer’s Directions, Audit Act and Australian Accounting Standards.
2. Tertiary qualifications in accounting or business-related discipline or other relevant formal studies.
