About The Role
We’re seeking an experienced Plant Manager to join our Austral Masonry facility in Gympie, Queensland. Reporting to the SEQ Operations Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring maximum operational efficiency and continual improvement of all personnel, systems and the plant at Gympie. You will oversee the activities within the plant to optimise the use of resources, minimise costs and maintain safety, quality and customer service standards.
Duties include but are not limited to
- Ensure a safe working environment and make sure the plant complies with WHS requirements, relevant legislation, and environmental standards, while actively improving safety performance.
- Plan and run day-to-day plant operations to meet production targets, business goals, and longer-term capacity needs.
- Oversee production scheduling, preventative maintenance, raw material supply, inventory levels, and general site systems.
- Manage budgets, including capital expenditure, to ensure the plant runs efficiently and within financial targets.
- Drive improvements in production efficiency, product quality, cost control, and overall site performance.
- Manage procurement, warehousing, stock control, and distribution of finished goods to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor product quality and production output to ensure everything meets required specifications, with authority to stop production if standards are not being met and escalate issues when needed.
- Lead and support the team, including training and development, promoting strong working relationships across the workforce and unions, and supporting new product development where required.
Success Requirements
- Trade qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Engineering or related field (desirable).
- Experience managing or supervising a production or plant operations team in a manufacturing environment.
- Formal training in WHS or production/operations management (advantageous)
- At least 5-10 years’ experience in manufacturing.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with teams and stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage, develop, and motivate teams in a hands-on operational environment.
- Solid problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, evaluate options, and implement practical solutions.
- Experience managing production plans and delivering work to meet operational targets, timelines, and quality standards.
- Confident using systems and software such as ERP platforms (e.g., JDE, MEX) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong commercial and financial acumen, including experience managing budgets, capital expenditure, and P&L performance.
