The Role

SESLHD Drug & Alcohol Services provides a range of treatment and support services designed to assist individuals, families, and communities managing concerns related to alcohol, prescription, or illicit drug use.

The purpose of the role is to plan, coordinate and deliver high quality psychosocial assessments, care coordination and navigation to people attending the SESLHD Drug and Alcohol Service, especially those from Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background, consistent with South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards.

The position will also build and maintain connections with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, Aboriginal community services and the local Aboriginal community.

Selection Criteria

  • To be a person of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1977.
  • Qualifications in Social Work in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award, which provides eligibility for membership of the AASW, OR tertiary Counselling qualifications with eligibility for appropriate association membership; OR Occupational Therapy qualification in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and registration with AHPRA.
  • Demonstrated core competency skills in culturally informed assessment, care coordination and navigation and clinical experience in Aboriginal Health and/or Drug and Alcohol treatment services with demonstrated commitment to harm minimisation philosophies.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical and cultural supervision and professional education and, if relevant to application, experience providing high level clinical advice clinical supervision and leading education and teaching to staff and/or students.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and exercise independent professional judgement in the provision of clinical care using evidence based practice, commensurate with years of experience.
  • Demonstrated participation or leadership in quality improvement processes and teaching, commensurate with years of experience.
  • Demonstrated active participation in developing, implementing and reporting on services.
