With over 30 years in the Australian market, this business delivers complex underground construction projects across the eastern seaboard. Following a successful restructure, the organisation is now backed by a global investment group and is entering an exciting phase of sustained growth and plans for future operational expansion. You will report directly to an enthusiastic General Manager with 25+ years’ tenure, a hands‑on and knowledgeable leader who provides strong guidance while empowering autonomy. Based in Murarrie, the office provides a convenient location with free on‑site parking, as well as a close‑knit, approachable culture. Your new role
Reporting to the General Manager, you will lead the end-to-end finance function while remaining close to the detail in a true SME environment.
Key responsibilities include:
- Full ownership of the month‑end close and management reporting
- Managing cashflow, budgeting and quarterly reforecasts
- Delivering project‑based financial insights, including job costing, WIP and performance analysis
- Overseeing AP, AR, bank reconciliations and transactional processes
- Managing all statutory compliance (GST, BAS, payroll tax and audit requirements)
- Preparing reporting for lenders, board and investment stakeholders
- Partnering with project managers and operational teams to drive performance
- Leading and mentoring a small finance team (AP Clerk and Company Accountant)
- Governance, controls and risk assessments for projects or potential acquisitions or mergers
- Driving process improvements and system optimisation (Sage Intacct ERP)
What you'll need to succeed
- CA/CPA qualified (ideal) with strong technical accounting capability
- Proven experience within construction, contracting or project‑based environments (essential)
- A demonstrated hands‑on SME background, comfortable across both transactional and reporting tasks
- Track record delivering accurate and tight month‑end deadlines
- Strong experience in budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
- Confident engaging with senior stakeholders including board, lenders and investors
- A collaborative leader who is willing to support, mentor and develop others
