About The Role

The Payroll Officer plays a key role in overseeing and executing the organisation’s end to end payroll function, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, legislative compliance, and responsive service delivery. Reporting to the Manager People Services, this role is primarily responsible for the timely and accurate processing of the fortnightly payroll for Slater + Gordon Ltd end to end.

In addition to managing core payroll operations, the position contributes to continuous process improvement, system maintenance, and provides guidance and mentoring to the Payroll Administration Officer and broader team members.

Reporting to the Manager, People Services, you will perform

End to End Payroll

  • Accurately prepare and process payroll for all employees (fortnightly)
  • Calculate and process allowances, deductions, superannuation, terminations, redundancies, back pays, and leave entitlements
  • Review payroll transactions to ensure compliance with relevant awards, enterprise agreements, legislation, and company policies
  • Reconcile and process Superannuation Contributions via Clearing House on a fortnightly basis
  • Child Support, Social Club, Novated Lease and Union Fee Payments
  • Reporting Requirements (Head Count, etc.)
  • Service Leave Calculations for Enterprise Agreement Staff

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure all payroll activities comply with Fair Work, taxation, and superannuation obligations.
  • Prepare PAYG, and other statutory reporting requirements.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and assist with end of month and end of year reconciliations
  • Resolution of Payroll Queries
  • Professional and timely responses to employee / manager / external party queries submitted via the Payroll Helpdesk email and telephone queries

End of Month Processes

  • Reconcile, submit and process Payroll Tax for all relevant states
  • Prepare reports for Finance

Provide support as required to the Manager People Services in regards, but not limited, to

  • Streamlining of Payroll Processes and Procedures
  • Ad hoc and regular reporting as required
  • Providing support to the Finance and Human Resources Team as required

What will you bring?

  • 3 years + payroll experience in a medium to large organisation
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret relevant awards and legislation.
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook)
