About The Role

As the Regional Manager for the West, you’ll play a key role in shaping the success of V/Line’s Customer Operations Group and the experience of the communities we serve.

You’ll shape and support all station and conductor staff across the West Region, with a strong focus on creating a safe, inclusive, and high-performing environment where people feel supported to do their best work. Success in this role will be reflected not only in operational outcomes but also in the strength, engagement, and capability of your people.

You’ll also contribute to exciting projects across the corridor, including station upgrades and regional improvements, working closely with a wide range of stakeholders.

Your key areas of responsibility include

  • Finance and business operations
  • Safety management and operational risk
  • Overseeing and coordinating site-based responses during incidents and emergencies

This is a people-first role where you'll help others thrive. You will:

  • Mentor, coach and empower people managers to build confidence, capability and a strong team culture
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment where diverse perspectives are valued
  • Work collaboratively in a complex, industrial environment
  • Build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Represent V/Line positively in the community

You’ll be supported by a collaborative management team, with access to ongoing development and opportunities to grow your career.

This is a meaningful role where you can have a real impact on your team, the organisation, and the communities we connect.

About You

You are a people-first team people manager who guides and supports with empathy, builds trust, and brings out the best in others. You’re approachable, resilient, and self-assured, navigating complex environments while always keeping your team supported and safe.

You don’t need to come from rail — we value transferable people skills and different perspectives.

We’re particularly interested in people who bring

  • Experience supporting or empowering frontline or operational teams (this could be across transport, retail, logistics, health, or other industries)
  • Experience supporting and developing others across your team
  • A strong commitment to safety and wellbeing, with the ability to build a positive team culture
  • The ability to balance priorities, budgets while supporting team and operational outcomes
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Sound judgment and the ability to find resolutions in fast-paced or high-pressure environments

If your skills or experience don’t exactly match our listed requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and believe in the potential for growth and development.

To be considered for entry into the selection process for this role, applicants must meet the following ‘key selection criteria’, which forms part of our merit-based recruitment process.

  • Experience in managing a senior leadership team
  • Budgeting management experience
  • Experience in managing a large team
