We are seeking a motivated and creative Communications & Engagement Officer to join our Communications & Engagement Team. In this role, you will help deliver innovative and effective communications and community engagement initiatives that inform, connect and inspire our community.

You will play a key role in promoting Council activities, managing media relationships, and enhancing Council’s corporate image through high-quality content and engagement strategies.

  • Permanent, full-time position (35 hours per week).
  • Remuneration package of $3,343.26 gross per fortnight with the opportunity to progress to $4,011.91 gross per fortnight + superannuation. Please note that the rate of pay will increase from 1 July 2026 in accordance with the Local Government (State) Award.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and support proactive communication initiatives including community engagement programs, education campaigns, marketing activities, and media liaison.
  • Act as a communication link between Council, the community, and media outlets, coordinating meetings, briefings, interviews, and promotional opportunities.
  • Research, write and produce high-quality content for a variety of platforms, including media releases, articles, social media posts, newsletters, promotional materials, and internal communications.
  • Produce content for Council publications such as Council News, including writing, editing, proofreading, coordinating artwork, and liaising with designers.
  • Capture photography and video content at Council events for use in promotional materials and corporate communications.
  • Create written and visual content, manage and maintain Council’s social media platforms and engagement website.
  • Build strong working relationships across the organisation to support the delivery of timely and accurate information to the community.
  • Attend relevant meetings, events, workshops, and community engagement activities as required.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring creativity, strong communication skills, and a passion for connecting with communities.

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations or a related field (e.g. Bachelor of Marketing).
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in communications, media, marketing or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience with relevant software tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Strong time management, planning, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively within a team and independently.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and presentation abilities.
