This role is classified as Level 6 role under SBS Australia's current Enterprise Agreement ( with a base salary range of $129,821 - $154,320 ). The successful applicant will be offered remuneration that is commensurate with their skills and experience and in alignment with this framework.

The Role

The Senior Producer plays a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, engaging content across SBS News platforms, with a primary focus on our flagship nightly national bulletin, SBS World News.

This role includes managing direct reports and stepping into senior newsroom positions such as Chief Producer for the 6:30pm and Late News bulletins, Supervising Producer, and Output Producer, as part of the regular roster pattern.

Key responsibilities include

  • Producing bulletins to the highest editorial standards, ensuring strong story balance, flow and alignment with SBS’s Charter.
  • Leading and supervising breaking news coverage, updates, and special promos.
  • Collaborating with reporters, editors, camera operators and design teams to deliver accurate, compelling and visually engaging news content.
  • Generating and developing story ideas across TV, digital, audio and social platforms.
  • Providing editorial leadership, feedback and coaching to reporters, producers and presenters.

About you

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • A proven background in broadcast news production, ideally within a fast-paced national newsroom.
  • Strong editorial judgement, with the ability to lead output during breaking news and high‑pressured moments.
  • Experience managing or supervising newsroom teams, with a collaborative and supportive leadership style.
  • Exceptional writing, subediting and storytelling skills.
  • The ability to work calmly to tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy, balance and SBS’s editorial standards.
