We are now seeking motivated and safety‑focused individuals to join our 2027 Trainee Intake in the following trade:
- Computer Aided Drafting Traineeship Certificate III in Engineering - Technical
About The Traineeship
As a GPC trainee, you will undertake a structured, supported training program combining on‑the‑job learning with formal study through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
You will be mentored by experienced technical professionals within the Port Infrastructure Assets team, gaining hands-on experience across a range of civil drafting, surveying, and technical projects. Throughout your traineeship, you will contribute to the safe, accurate, and efficient delivery of surveying and drafting services that support GPC’s infrastructure assets. You will develop practical skills in AutoCAD, surveying techniques, and technical documentation, along with the knowledge and professional behaviours required to meet GPC’s standards and successfully complete your Certificate III in Engineering - Technical.
This is a 1-year fixed term full‑time traineeship with regular working hours and scheduled training commitments.
What You’ll Be Doing
Under supervision, trainees will assist with:
- Supporting surveying and drafting activities across GPC’s port infrastructure, including field data collections and set-out tasks
- Assisting with the creation and modification of technical drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Participating in routine surveying activities, including the use of survey equipment and drone data capture
- Identifying and reporting basic technical issues, and assisting with troubleshooting and continuous improvement tasks
- Applying safe work practices, risk assessments, and relevant controls in all activities
- Supporting Technical Officers and mentors on infrastructure and asset-related projects
- Maintaining accurate records of data, drawings, and daily activities using digital systems, and meeting training milestones
- Working in accordance with GPC policies safety systems, and environmental responsibilities

About You

You Will Bring

- An interest in working with computer-based design software, surveying equipment, and technical systems
Eligibility Criteria
Mandatory
- Completion of Year 12 or a TAFE equivalent
- Minimum Grade C in Graphics or similar studies
- Minimum Grade C in English
- Minimum Grade C in General Mathematics
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
Desirable
- C Class Driver Licence or ability to obtain (provisional accepted)
- Exposure to software like AutoCAD or SketchUp
