Parklands Gardener Apprenticeship

Build your future with Gladstone Ports Corporation

Shape your career with hands‑on experience at one of Queensland’s most vital trade gateways. Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) is Queensland’s leading multi‑commodity port and a proud Government Owned Corporation. Our work supports regional jobs, global trade, and long‑term prosperity for Queensland communities — and our apprentices play a vital role in that future.

We are now seeking motivated and safety‑focused individuals to join our 2027 Apprentice Intake in the following trades:

  • Apprentice Gardener Certificate III in Parks and Gardens

About The Apprenticeship

As a GPC apprentice, you will undertake a structured, supported training program combining on‑the‑job learning with formal study through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

You will be mentored by experienced parks and gardens team members, gaining hands-on experience across a variety of landscaped environments within GPC’s Marina Precinct and parklands. Throughout your apprenticeship, you will contribute to the safe, efficient and high-quality maintenance and presentation of these public spaces, supporting a positive experience for community members and visitors. You will develop horticultural skills, technical knowledge and professional behaviours required to meet GPC’s standards and successfully complete your Certificate III in Parks and Gardens.

This is a 3-year fixed term full‑time apprenticeship with regular working hours and scheduled training commitments.

What You’ll Be Doing

Under supervision, apprentices will assist with:

  • The maintenance and upkeep of GPC’s parklands, landscaped areas, and recreational spaces, including mowing, pruning, planting and garden care
  • Routine maintenance activities such a turf management, fertilising, irrigation upkeeps, and weed and pest control
  • Identifying and addressing general maintenance issues, and assisting with basic troubleshooting and improvements
  • Applying safe work practices, risk assessments, and environmental controls in all activities
  • Supporting experienced team members in landscaping, beautification, and maintenance projects
  • Maintaining accurate records of daily activities and contributing to digital systems and training milestones
  • Working in accordance with GPC policies, safety systems, and environmental responsibilities

Our Values in Action

At GPC, being an apprentice means more than learning a trade — it means taking pride in your work, looking out for your safety and the safety of others, doing the right thing even when no one is watching, and taking responsibility for your actions. You’ll be expected to show respect to your teammates, customers and community, be open to learning and feedback, work collaboratively, and approach each day with professionalism, curiosity and enthusiasm. We value people who are humble, motivated and committed to contributing positively to our ports and to Queensland’s future.
