National Parks and in the South West Region include Yalgorup, Wellington, Greater Preston, Wiltshire-Butler, Dalgarup, Forest Grove, Blackwood River, Wooditjup, Yelverton, Whicher, Leeuwin-Naturaliste, Scott River, Hilliger and Tuart Forest. The Ngari Capes Marine Park stretches along the west coast from Geographe Bay in the north to Flinders Bay near Augusta in the south.
The South West Region’s key service deliverables include nature conservation, parks and visitor services, sustainable forest management, fire management, and land-use planning. The region’s headquarters is based in Bunbury. Services are also delivered via the Blackwood District, located at Busselton with work centres at Margaret River, Nannup and Kirup, and the Wellington District, located at Collie with a smaller work centre at Harvey.
We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Operations Officer Sustainable Forest Management (Mining Liaison) to join our team.
Under the limited direction of the Regional Leader Sustainable Forest Management (SFM), this position:
- Is responsible for all mining and large scale basic raw material management on Crown Land within the South West region.
- Plans, implements and maintains current working arrangements to departmental standards.
- Undertakes all statutory requirements, monitors standards and liaises with Environmental Management Branch, Swan region Regional Leader SFM and mine managers.

Selection Criteria
Applicants should address the following four (4) criteria. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.
- Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in mine-site management, rehabilitation techniques, sustainable forest management, and natural resource management and the use of systems to monitor and report on such activities.
- Demonstrated experience in effective liaison and negotiation at a senior level to achieve organisational objectives with other government agencies, industry, stakeholders, Aboriginal groups, community interest groups and the media.
- Evidence of good oral and written communication skills including the ability to respond to complex and detailed information requests.
- Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills with demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills in leadership and mentoring of others in sustainable forest management and managing mining activities, with a preference for someone able to develop and deliver appropriate training packages to achieve this.
