About The Role
We have a rare and exciting opportunity to join City of Ryde Libraries as the Team Leader - Ryde Library. This is your chance to bring your leadership skills to our central branch, located in the busy Top Ryde City Shopping Centre. This library houses a variety of modern and functional spaces making it a vibrant and welcoming space which caters to a wide range of community needs every day. We continue to innovate and strengthen our services with an emphasis on a wide variety of programs for all ages, an extensive collection and a focus on emerging technologies in Public Libraries.
The purpose of this role is to deliver a consistent and responsive library service that meets the community’s needs and to provide leadership and operational management of the branch library. As a senior member of the library service, you will contribute to the development and delivery of service improvements and to the achievements of the Library Strategic Plan.
The position is full time, 35 hours per week, working Monday to Friday including evening and rostered weekend work. Library staff are required to wear a uniform which will be provided.
Your commencing salary would be $90,631.34 to $99,062.16 p.a. + Superannuation depending on your experience and qualifications.
Key Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Support the Library Management Team by providing leadership and guidance with relation to people management processes including recruitment, staff development and performance improvement.
- Lead and supervise the lending services function of the library and co-ordinate the rostering of staff within teams and/or in other teams as required.
- Manage the service desk and customer experience to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and seek assistance from specialist library staff as required.
- Ensure a high standard of appearance, maintenance and safety of the facility.
- Liaise with Team Leaders and staff from other library teams to ensure consistency of service quality and assist the development of library-wide innovations.
- Establish, foster and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Contribute to the senior Library Management Team to improve service delivery by maintaining an awareness of current trends in public libraries and contributing to the strategic direction of the library service.
Essential Criteria
- A degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent as recognised by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and/or a degree level qualification in a related area with significant public library experience
- Current Working with Children check
- Class C Drivers Licence
- Experience in the delivery of a high level public library and information service in a cross cultural customer service environment.
- Proven people management and supervisory experience (minimum 2 years) in a public library or similar customer focussed environment, including the supervision and performance management of staff.
- Proven high level communication and interpersonal skills including report writing, procedure development, problem solving, negotiation and effective complaints handling skills and experience.
- Experience in process improvement and leading/implementing change.
- Understanding of current issues and trends in the library industry.
- Knowledge of EEO principles, Privacy and Information Act.
