Our client, a well-regarded international law firm with a growing presence in Australia, is seeking a motivated Associate to join its practice in Sydney. This is a unique opportunity to work across a genuinely broad practice, gaining exposure to a diverse range of sophisticated cross-border contentious and advisory matters.

The role sits primarily within the firm's disputes practice and offers experience across commercial disputes, international arbitration and regulatory investigations. The opportunity provides exposure to a number of different practice streams, clients and senior lawyers, allowing you to develop a broad skill set and gain insight into a variety of legal and commercial issues. You will work closely with multiple partners and their respective teams (including dispute resolution and corporate) on complex cross-border matters, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, transport and real estate sectors.

The work is varied, sophisticated and often international in nature, involving a mix of litigation, arbitration, investigations and strategic advisory work. The role has been designed to provide breadth of experience and meaningful responsibility from an early-stage providing a well-rounded platform for career development.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting on complex commercial disputes and international arbitration matters
  • Drafting pleadings, submissions, witness evidence and other key legal documents
  • Conducting legal research and contributing to case strategy development
  • Working directly with clients, counsel, experts and other stakeholders
  • Supporting regulatory investigations and dispute-related advisory work
  • Providing support across practice groups on corporate advisory and transactional matters

About you:

  • Australian qualified
  • 2-4 years' post-qualification experience in commercial litigation, disputes or arbitration
  • Experience gained at a reputable private practice firm
  • Strong drafting, analytical and legal research skills
  • Commercially minded with the ability to provide practical advice
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Willingness to develop a broad skill set across the different practice areas
