Senior Associate Planner

TBB Planning

Perth-based | Flexible working | TBB Planning

Lead complex projects. Grow client relationships. Help shape the future of planning at TBB.

TBB Planning is growing, and we are looking for an experienced town planner to join our team at Senior Associate level.

This role offers genuine influence over project direction, client relationships, team capability and the continued growth of TBB’s planning consultancy. It is typically suited to planners with around 8+ years’ relevant experience, or equivalent capability in leading complex work, clients and teams. We are more interested in your judgement, leadership, commercial confidence and fit with TBB than years alone.

What you’ll do

  • Lead complex statutory, strategic and place-based planning projects.
  • Provide technical direction across reports, applications, submissions, approval strategies and planning frameworks.
  • Build trusted relationships with clients, consultants, government agencies and project collaborators.
  • Lead or shape tenders, proposals, client presentations and project opportunities.
  • Guide stakeholder and community engagement processes where required.
  • Coach team members through effective and high-quality project delivery.
  • Manage scope, budget, resourcing, invoicing inputs and commercial risks.
  • Champion practical improvements, including the use of AI-enabled tools to improve quality, efficiency and client value.
  • Contribute to TBB’s specialisms, systems, knowledge sharing, business development and strategic growth.

You may lead work across structure planning, scheme amendments, development approvals, planning strategies, activity centre and precinct planning, major land use change, engagement-supported projects and multidisciplinary place outcomes.

What we’re looking for

You’ll bring the judgement, calm coordination and commercial mindset needed to lead in a private consultancy environment.

We’re looking for someone who understands project pace, fee discipline, client expectations and the importance of clear, practical advice. You’ll be confident leading complex work, growing client relationships, mentoring others and helping shape how the practice continues to evolve.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • extensive experience in statutory and/or strategic planning
  • strong knowledge of the WA planning system, approval pathways and policy frameworks
  • demonstrated success leading complex planning projects
  • confidence managing senior client, consultant and agency relationships
  • strong commercial awareness across scope, budgets, resourcing and delivery
  • a genuine interest in mentoring others and building team capability
  • a forward-looking mindset and willingness to improve how work gets done
  • confidence adopting and encouraging smart working practices, including the responsible use of AI-enabled tools to improve quality, efficiency and client value.

Why TBB?

At TBB, you’ll work on high-impact, future-focused projects with planners, designers and place specialists who care about shaping better outcomes for WA.

You’ll have direct access to decision-makers, genuine influence over projects and clients, and the opportunity to grow your career without getting lost in a large corporate structure.

We offer:

  • Competitive salary aligned to experience.
  • Flexible working arrangements and genuine work-life balance.
  • Performance-based incentives and milestone bonuses.
  • Professional development and clear career pathway support.
  • Mentorship from experienced planners and supportive leaders.
  • Exposure to high-quality statutory, strategic and place-based planning projects.
  • A supportive, social and values-led team environment.
  • Barista-style coffee (and snacks!).
