Senior Internal Auditor
Energy Queensland
Ready to drive Queensland’s clean energy future? Join us as a Senior Internal Auditor and build a rewarding career that shapes tomorrow.
Your Future is Energy Queensland
Energy Queensland are at the frontline of progress. Consisting of our operational brands Energex, Ergon Energy Network, Ergon Retail, and Yurika, we are Australia’s largest government-owned electricity organisation. We serve people and communities across Queensland to deliver reliable energy solutions. Here, you’ll help us support our two million customers.
Join us as a Senior Internal Auditor and bring a practical, business-aligned approach to internal audit.
Your Opportunity
This is not a “check-the-box” audit role.
Your work will inform senior leadership and the Audit & Risk Committee on key risks and control effectiveness across the business.
You’ll be trusted to independently assess and provide clear, evidence-based recommendations.
Working across a diverse environment, from regulated network operations to major infrastructure and energy transition initiatives, you’ll bring clarity to risk and controls at scale.
Based in Brisbane, Cairns, Mackay, Rockhampton, Toowoomba or Townsville, you’ll work across the organisation, partnering closely with stakeholders to assess the effectiveness of controls and provide clear, actionable advice.
As our GM of Internal Audit, Samara Dowling, puts it:
“This is a role where you’re trusted to operate independently, engage senior stakeholders, and deliver insights that genuinely influence how risk is managed across the organisation.”
Day to day, you will:
- Own internal audits from start to finish – from planning, fieldwork, reporting, through to follow-up.
- Work closely with stakeholders across the business to understand how processes operate.
- Translate risk and control insights into practical, business-relevant recommendations.
- Work closely with Internal Audit colleagues to deliver high-quality, risk-based audits.
- Focus on delivering risk-based, insights-led audits in line with the Global Internal Audit Standards.
What’s On Offer?
- Strong salary: from $164,146 + 14.75% super
- 9-day fortnight (72-hour roster): genuine work-life balance
- Exposure across the business: where your work has real impact
- Flexible working: up to 50% work-from-home
- Additional benefits: including novated leasing – see our benefits page for more
What You’ll Bring
You bring established experience in internal audit, and you’re ready to apply it in a hands-on, practical environment.
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics (or equivalent) required, with CA, or CIA membership highly regarded.
We’re particularly interested in people who
- Bring experience from internal audit, risk, and assurance backgrounds who are comfortable taking a hands-on role in delivery rather than operating in an advisory capacity.
- Take a pragmatic, commercially aware approach (not overly reliant on theory or frameworks).
- Operate with a high degree of autonomy, supported by leadership but without reliance on rigid frameworks or handholding.
What will set you apart
- Experience in medium to large organisations.
- Experience in similar industries or similarly large, complex and regulated organisations.
- Strong understanding of governance, risk, and internal control frameworks.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and drive outcomes.
- Balance between independence and relationship-building.
How you work
- Comfortable working autonomously whilst also thriving in a high-performance team environment.
- Clear, confident communicator, able to translate complexity into simple, practical messages.
- Builds strong relationships and influences outcomes.
- High integrity and trusted with sensitive information.
- Detail-focused.
- Analytical thinker who can break down issues and present clear, actionable insights.
