ABOUT THE ROLE

Join our Defence ICT team in a high impact role supporting advanced capabilities across air warfare systems. This position brings together expertise in Network Technology and Software Engineering to deliver mission critical outcomes within a complex operational environment. The role contributes to the sustainment, governance, assurance, and integration of 4SQN ICT systems, including Tactical Data Links and core mission systems. You will operate across both operational support and project delivery, ensuring systems remain compliant, interoperable, and mission ready throughout the capability lifecycle, including Test and Evaluation (PT&E) phases. Working closely with Defence stakeholders, program offices, and industry partners, you will serve as a trusted point of contact for ICT operational support, engineering activities, and system governance at all levels.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the primary point of contact for operational ICT support, engaging with Defence stakeholders, NETTECHs, CCT personnel, and industry partners
  • Deliver ICT training and mentorship to build and sustain workforce capability across the program
  • Provide operational support and sustainment for the 4SQN ICT fleet, maintaining system availability and performance to mission standards
  • Support governance, policy, and compliance activities aligned with CASG BMS and broader Defence requirements
  • Manage sustainment and PT&E activities for operational and trial ICT capabilities in collaboration with relevant System Program Offices
  • Coordinate vendor support and sustainment arrangements, ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations
  • Manage fleet training, sustainment planning, and capability delivery for program level ICT systems
  • Maintain control of cryptographic material and coordinate technical maintenance activities
  • Ensure system conformance, Authorities to Operate (ATO), and compliance with MIL-STD and accreditation frameworks across ICT systems
  • Conduct Verification and Validation (V&V) activities and support system integration and interoperability outcomes
  • Coordinate defect management (RODUM) and develop user requirements to address capability gaps and enhancements

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Active NV2 Security Clearance (mandatory, non-negotiable)
  • Australian resident with full working rights
  • Experienced ICT professional with Network Technician and/or Software Engineering expertise, with demonstrated effectiveness in complex Defence environments
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of ICT sustainment, system assurance, governance, and lifecycle management, including accreditation and compliance frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience in V&V, system compliance including MIL-STD standards, and Authorities to Operate (ATO)
  • Proven experience supporting ICT sustainment, PT&E, system integration, and capability enhancement activities
  • Sound understanding of Defence governance and procurement frameworks including CASG BMS, ERP, and NDS
  • Proven ability to engage and collaborate with technical teams, stakeholders, and industry partners, applying a practical, risk based approach
  • Experience working with secure ICT systems and managing cryptographic materials
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce technical documentation and advisory outputs
