We have a unique opportunity for an enthusiastic and organised Events Officer to join our team!

What You Will Do

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to some of the Cairns region's most significant celebrations and commemorations while developing your event management, stakeholder engagement, and project coordination skills in a supportive team environment.

As the Events Officer, you will support the day-to-day effectiveness of Council's events function and contribute to creating meaningful opportunities for residents, visitors, community groups, and stakeholders to connect and engage. You will assist in coordinating event logistics, managing supplier information, supporting sponsorship and stakeholder relationships, facilitating permits and approvals, and helping evaluate event outcomes to continuously improve community participation and impact.

From Australia Day celebrations and ANZAC Day commemorations to community expos, festive events, and major sporting events, you will play a key role in helping deliver experiences that strengthen community cohesion, engagement, and pride.

What We Are Looking For

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Marketing or Event Management and/or demonstrated equivalent workplace experience.
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence to independently drive between Council facilities.
  • Demonstrated event management capability to contribute to the planning and delivery of community events.
  • Good presentation and writing skills.
  • Ability to relate well to the public and staff.
  • Understanding of event management software.
  • Ability to work after hours when necessary, including some weekends and public holidays.
