What We Are Looking For

Lead Specialist Water Industry Operations oversee and assist with the continuous monitoring, operation and maintenance of Council’s water, sewage and recycled water schemes in an effective, efficient and safe manner, ensuring the highest quality of service to Council’s customers through compliance with industry guidelines, workplace procedures, Council’s Customer Service Standards and statutory requirements.

This includes job planning of day-to-day tasks, job safety and risk assessments, quality monitoring and reporting, procurement as and when required, bulk chemical stocks, lab operations, identifying and reporting operational failures, causes and remedies, and actioning customer requests as directed.

Essential Knowledge & Skills

  • Certificate III in water and sewage treatment AND/OR a combination of experience, expertise and competence sufficient to perform the duties required at this level.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously or cooperatively in an integrated team environment by developing effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of water and sewage treatment plant operation and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safe chemical handling and storage.
  • Demonstrated administrative, basic SCADA and computer operation skills
  • Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence or above that is current and maintained.
  • Construction Industry White/Blue Card

Essential Requirements

  • Provide effective leadership and open communication culture.
  • Provide advice to maintain and develop work practices and workplace productivity.
  • Actively promote problem solving and assign solutions with the appropriate level of risk.
  • Ensure records of plant operations including operating logs, plant hours, daily diaries, chemical inventories, data logs and results of laboratory tests and reports are maintained.
  • Efficient operation of assets through on-going monitoring, process control, maintenance & repairs, in accordance with Regulatory requirements and Council’s customer service standards.
  • Collection, sampling and analysis, in order to monitor and adjust plant performance as necessary, ensuring all testing and reporting of results are undertaken in accordance with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Monitor SCADA, telemetry and PLC systems, analyze and diagnose faults, take appropriate action to rectify the faults. Record & report faults to management
  • Actively participate to implement initiatives and promote a cooperative team-based approach.
  • Continuous improvement that improves safety, efficiency, and performance.
  • Ensure that all work is conducted in a safe manner to avoid personal (or employee, public) injury or sickness and carry out, audits and risk assessments as required.
  • Ensure that works performed comply with Council policies and procedures, relevant acts, regulations, codes of practice and standards.
  • Contribute to an effective team to ensure the highest quality of service to customers through compliance with industry guidelines, workplace procedures, Council’s Customer Service Standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Assist in the review and updating of documentation, SOP’s, job analysis systems and assist in audits, site inductions and risk assessments as required.
  • Participate in project delivery (scoping, design, tender review, preconstruction, and close-out) to meet operational requirements.
  • Foster positive relationships within the Water branch and across Council directorates.
  • Be available for rotating on-call roster & attend to sewer and water supply emergency calls, and ensure customer requests are attended to promptly and efficiently
