PRIMARY OBJECTIVE
Develop power protection systems to ensure Power and Water’s diverse range of assets meet required performance and risk standards in terms of
people and asset safety. The primary focus is the design and operation of protection systems across the Northern Territory’s Transmission and
Distribution systems, as well as generation in remote centres.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The “WHAT” to be delivered
- Manage the complete life cycle of the protection system assets and schemes, including the development of strategies and processes for efficient
design, operation and maintenance.
- Undertake protection system design and commissioning activities in line with the protection strategy and carry out fault level studies for the
determination of correct protection settings.
- Liaise with service providers in the maintenance, design and implementation of protection schemes for new and existing HV systems and
manage the protection device replacement program and inventory holdings.
- Investigate and identify the causes of failure of the protection equipment and recommend remedial actions to eliminate or correct them.
- Evaluate new protective relays and schemes and provide technical support to engineers and service delivery technicians.
- Project management and development of business cases for protection system replacement and/or improvement projects.
