The role is accountable to the Coordinating Senior Sergeant and Operations Inspector, for the supervision and oversight of the personnel who comprise the Firearms Team, Licence Team, Customer Service Team, and Investigation Team.

The role is responsible for the management of records associated with firearms licensing and registration, and for ensuring activities complement and support SAPOL objectives. The management of this data assists Firearms Branch senior management and internal/external stakeholders with decisions relating to policy, planning, management and operational policing, and further ensures a licencees firearms ownership and licence details are accurately recorded.

The role provides supervision and oversight of probity assessment of firearms licence applicants and current licencees, processing and data entry of records associated with the licencing and the registration of firearms into the Firearms Control System/South Australian Firearms Register, and the various customer enquiries fielded by staff. The role provides specialised advice on the navigation and retrieval of data from the Firearms Control System/South Australian Firearms Register and provides expert advice and information to internal and external stakeholders.

The role is responsible for the supervision of Senior ASO4 Adjudicators and is accountable to oversee the efficient investigation, adjudication, and liaison of firearms related matters to ensure only fit and proper persons are issued with or maintain a firearms licence or permit and to ensure compliance with the Firearms Act and Regulations. The incumbent is required to provide reliable and accurate information on legislation, policy and procedure and practical application of the Firearms Act and Regulations to operational, prosecution, and administrative personnel, and members of the public including firearms dealers.

  • The incumbent may be assigned to other duties at this remuneration level or equivalent.
  • Some out of hours work and intra/interstate travel may be required.
  • The incumbent is required to participate in SAPOL’s iEngage program.

Salary

ASO5 - $89,007 - $98,991 per annum.
