Working Hours: 7hrs/day, 35 hrs/week

A leading NSW Government agency dedicated to protecting the health and safety of workers across the state is seeking a highly skilled and analytically rigorous

Senior Analytical Chemist to join their specialist laboratory team. In this senior scientific role, you will sit at the heart of a world-class occupational health and safety laboratory — delivering complex chemical analysis, driving method development, and providing expert technical advice that directly informs workplace safety standards and policy across New South Wales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality, complex chemical analyses using advanced chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques (LC, LC-MS and GC-MS) on workplace air, surface and urinary samples
  • Undertake research and develop new analytical methods to identify and measure chemical exposure in workplace environments
  • Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot specialised analytical instruments to ensure accuracy, reliability and compliance with ISO 17025 accreditation requirements
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, publications and expert advice for customers, inspectors, senior management and government stakeholders
  • Participate in and provide complex technical guidance to internal and external state and national committees involved in developing legislation, codes of practice, safety alerts and policies
  • Undertake project work that identifies emerging work health and safety issues and provides evidence-based recommendations to inform policy and regulatory change
  • Assess the correctness and appropriateness of samples submitted for analysis and ensure the integrity of all analytical results

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with LC, LC-MS and/or GC-MS instrumentation in a routine analytical or ISO 17025-accredited laboratory environment
  • Proven ability to develop and validate new analytical methods and troubleshoot complex instrumentation issues
