In this role, you'll:

  • Carry out construction, maintenance, and general labouring tasks using plant, equipment, and both powered and non-powered hand tools.
  • Support a variety of road construction and maintenance activities, including (but not limited to) road widening, barrier installations, pavement upgrades, overtaking lanes, and heavy patching works.
  • Work a roster of Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 4:00pm, with a rostered day off every second Monday.
  • Participate in approximately 8–10 weeks of night shift annually, with applicable shift allowances provided.
  • Be available for overtime, travel, occasional work away from home, weekend work, and on-call duties as required.

You will be part of a dedicated crew including a team leader, road workers, and plant operators, delivering essential road maintenance and construction works across the state network.

This is a permanent full-time position based in Orange. Applicants must live within a 70km travel distance of the Orange works depot.

About You

Your strong work ethic, reliability, and positive attitude—gained through work or life experience—will help you succeed in this role. You are flexible, safety-focused, and ready to take on hands-on, physical work.

You are a proactive team player who takes initiative, works efficiently, and is committed to learning and development.

Previous road or construction experience is beneficial but not essential—we value the right attitude and willingness to learn. A truck licence is also advantageous but not required.

Essential requirements

  • Current Construction Industry White Card
  • Current Class C Driver Licence
  • Traffic Controller accreditation (or willingness to obtain within the first 3 months)
  • Must live within 70 km travel distance of the Orange works
  • Willingness to work outside standard hours, including night shifts, callouts, travel across the region, and working away from home when required
