An opportunity for a Legal Counsel – front-end construction / projects lawyer to join an established engineering and construction business delivering complex infrastructure and energy projects across Australia, supported by the backing of an international parent and with a growing portfolio of utility-scale renewable energy and energy transition work.
Reporting to the Head of Legal, this role sits within a focused in-house team embedded in project delivery. You will be involved across both contract structuring and project execution, working closely with commercial and engineering teams on matters requiring careful allocation and ongoing management of risk.
The position offers exposure to EPC, EPCM and D&C contracting models, as well as broader collaborative project structures, with work spanning procurement through to live project support.
Responsibilities
- Advise on the structuring, negotiation and execution of complex project contracts, including EPC, EPCM and D&C arrangements
- Partner with commercial and delivery teams to manage contractual risk across live projects, from procurement through to execution
- Provide clear, commercially grounded guidance on claims, variations and emerging issues as they arise
- Support contract governance across active projects, including interpretation of entitlements and alignment with risk appetite
- Assist in the management of disputes and pre-dispute scenarios, balancing legal position with practical outcomes
- Contribute to the development and refinement of contracting frameworks, templates and internal processes
- Engage across the project lifecycle, including early-stage structuring and post-completion review of contractual outcomes
About You
- 2 - 4 year PQE lawyer with experience in construction, projects or infrastructure law, gained in private practice or in-house
- Demonstrated experience advising on and drafting project contracts, including exposure to EPC, D&C or comparable contract structures
- Developing understanding of how risk is structured and allocated through project documentation
- Exposure to live project matters, including contract administration, claims or variations
- Commercially aware, with the ability to engage effectively with commercial and technical stakeholders
- Clear, concise communicator, able to provide practical and responsive advice
- Interest in infrastructure and energy projects, including renewable energy and energy transition work
