Company Description
Northan Legal Sydney is seeking a motivated Law Graduate or Junior Lawyer to join our criminal law team. This is a full-time, in-person, criminal law-only position for someone committed to building a practical career in criminal defence.
The Role
- Manage criminal and traffic law matters and attend the Local Court, District Court and Supreme Court across different areas of Sydney.
- Appear at mentions, applications, bail applications, pleas and hearings where appropriate, and assist with trials and appeals.
- Attend urgent police station and custody matters arising from a client’s arrest.
- Liaise professionally with clients, police, prosecutors, courts, counsel and other relevant stakeholders throughout the conduct of matters.
- Review briefs of evidence, conduct legal research and draft submissions, affidavits, correspondence and court documents.
- Manage time-sensitive matters and demanding client communications while maintaining accurate and well-organised case files.
About You
- A recent law graduate, candidate eligible for admission, or admitted Australian lawyer with approximately 0–2 years’ PAE.
- A genuine interest in criminal law, with a strong willingness to learn and accept feedback.
- Strong written and spoken English, legal research, drafting and communication skills.
- Calm, organised and resilient under pressure, with professional client management skills.
- A current driver’s licence is preferred; otherwise, you must be able to travel reliably to courts and police stations across Sydney.
- Mandarin and/or Cantonese language skills are highly regarded.
- A regular exercise or sporting routine is viewed favourably as an indication of personal discipline and resilience.

- Eligible supervised legal practice may count towards the restricted practising certificate period, subject to applicable requirements.
- Remuneration is negotiable based on experience, admission status and capability.
