About This Role

Latrobe City Council is offering a unique opportunity for a passionate local to work in the planning team while at the same time attaining their qualifications as a planner.

If successful, the Student Planner will be fully supported to complete an online Diploma of Town Planning while working in our Statutory Planning team. This means Council will cover the cost of the degree while also paying a waged salary so that the successful candidate can apply what is learned in class to real-world examples on the job.

Latrobe is the only council in Victoria currently offering this opportunity.

The Student Planner position is a 2-year full-time contract. During these two years you will be supported to study part-time while working part-time. Following the completing of your study there will be a potential option for a two-year Graduate position where you will work full-time, further applying your knowledge in planning to springboard to a successful career beyond.

About You

We’re seeking a highly motivated individual who is local to Latrobe (or willing to relocate) who is passionate about town planning and who is willing to get qualified in town planning while working and learning on the job. The qualification costs are included in the employment contract. The Diploma of Town Planning course provides the foundation knowledge and skills for a successful career in town planning.

You'll also need

  • Ability to meet the enrolment eligibility requirements for a Diploma in Town Planning through online learning. Enrolment must be completed prior - to October 2026.
  • Demonstrated experience liaising and communicating with a diverse range of people and organisations.
  • Ability to manage time, set priorities, plan and organise own work to meet objectives.
  • Good customer service skills and commitment to continuous improvement.
  • You should be resourceful, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Local candidates or those willing to move to Latrobe are preferred.

Successful applicants will be required to apply for and satisfactorily obtain a National Police Check and Working with Children's Check.
