An opportunity is available for a Claims Manager to join our Sydney team, on a full-time, permanent basis. This opportunity will see you support our members through the management of their claims, providing expert advice every step of the way. You will be assisting members predominantly in matters involving hospitals, regulatory and complaints bodies, such as the Health Care Complaints Commission and the Medical Council of NSW. This role is also responsible for assisting in the accurate maintenance, entry and reporting of claims data, file management and document production.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage member claims and investigations in accordance with the relevant Avant claims and investigation protocols and guidelines.
  • Within legislative and internal policy constraints, facilitate the free flow of information to other Avant departments.
  • Contribute to Avant’s provision of claims services.
  • Support state Retention & Growth (R&G) initiatives be educating members, staff and internal and external bodies in medico-legal, clinical risk and claims matters
  • Positive contribution to national process improvements and change initiatives.
  • Provide professional input into the definition and achievement of the department’s plans, goals and objectives.

Key Capabilities Required (Qualifications, Experience and Skills)

  • Tertiary qualifications in legal, health or business;
  • Previous demonstrated experience in insurance claims management is desirable;
  • A strong understanding of current health and insurance legislation;
  • A strong focus on time management and work management;
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills;
  • Proven ability to work in an electronic document management system; and
  • Strong relationship building and negotiation skills.
