Dawn House Inc. is seeking an experienced Northern Territory-based Non-Executive Director to join its Board as Treasurer.
This is a voluntary Board appointment for a qualified CA or CPA with previous Non-Executive Director experience and strong financial governance capability. The role will provide high-level oversight of Dawn House’s financial position, risk settings and long-term sustainability, while supporting the organisation’s work with women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.
About Dawn House
Dawn House is a specialist domestic and family violence service based in Darwin. The organisation provides crisis accommodation, outreach support, advocacy and community education for women and children escaping violence.
Dawn House plays an important role in the Northern Territory service system and is committed to safety, dignity, social justice and practical support for women and children.
About the opportunity
The Treasurer will join the Dawn House Board and contribute to sound governance, financial oversight and strategic decision-making.
The Treasurer is not responsible for day-to-day financial operations. The role provides Board-level financial leadership, working with the Chair, Board, CEO and relevant staff to ensure the organisation has clear financial reporting, appropriate controls, responsible budgeting and effective oversight of financial risk.
This appointment will suit a finance professional who understands the responsibilities of a Non-Executive Director and can bring commercial judgement, ethical decision-making and a practical understanding of not-for-profit governance.
Key responsibilities
As Treasurer, you will contribute to the Board by:
- providing financial oversight and advice to support informed Board decision-making
- reviewing budgets, financial reports, cash flow, audit outcomes and financial performance
- supporting the Board to understand financial risks, funding obligations and sustainability considerations
- contributing to governance, compliance, risk management and strategic planning
- working constructively with the Chair, Board, CEO and senior staff
- ensuring financial information is considered in a clear, timely and responsible way
- supporting a culture of accountability, transparency and good governance.
Essential requirements
To be considered for this appointment, candidates must have:
- current CA or CPA qualification
- current Northern Territory residency
- previous Non-Executive Director experience
- strong financial governance, reporting and risk management experience
- the ability to interpret financial statements, budgets, audit reports and funding-related financial information
- sound judgement, integrity and respect for confidentiality
- a genuine commitment to Dawn House’s purpose and the safety of women and children.
Highly regarded experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas will be well regarded:
- not-for-profit, charity, community services or public sector governance
- organisations funded through government grants or service agreements
- audit and risk committees
- financial sustainability, internal controls and compliance
- domestic, family and sexual violence, housing, homelessness or human services sectors
- First Nations governance, cultural governance or work with Aboriginal communities in the Northern Territory.
