TasPorts is seeking a highly experienced and strategic General Manager Marine to lead the safe, efficient, and commercially effective delivery of marine operations across Tasmania's ports.
This is a critical executive leadership role responsible for overseeing marine services and ensuring operational excellence across a diverse and geographically dispersed portfolio.
About the Role
Reporting to the Group Executive Operations, the General Manager Marine will provide strategic direction and leadership across all marine functions, including pilotage, towage, and broader marine operations.
You will play a key role in ensuring:
Safe, compliant, and efficient marine operations
Strong commercial performance and service delivery
Effective leadership of operational teams across multiple locations
Continuous improvement and innovation in marine services
This is a permanent, full-time role based statewide.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and oversee marine services including pilotage, towage, and fleet management
Drive a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements
Deliver commercial performance, managing budgets, revenue, and cost outcomes
Develop and implement fleet asset strategies, including maintenance, renewal, and procurement
Build strong relationships with customers, regulators, and stakeholders
Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and service delivery
Provide leadership across a statewide, multi-disciplinary team, driving culture, capability, and performance
Contribute as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, shaping strategy and business outcomes
About You
You are an experienced senior leader with a strong background in marine operations. You bring both strategic capability and operational credibility, with a proven ability to lead complex teams and environments.
You will demonstrate:
Significant leadership experience in marine, ports and logistics
Strong understanding of maritime safety, compliance, and regulatory frameworks
Commercial acumen and a focus on performance outcomes
Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
A commitment to safety, people leadership, and continuous improvement
Essential requirements
Specialist marine operations technical knowledge and extensive experience in Pilotage, towage or other related maritime industry;
Proven strategic leadership skills to lead, motivate and manage marine operational teams, and to work as a team player within executive and management teams;
A proven change leader, comfortable with leveraging processes and systems to improve business performance;
Ability to operate with significant autonomy, initiative and creativity in achieving outcomes;
Ability to demonstrate a continuous development of safety culture, a commitment to customer, and high levels of personal accountability for safety; and
Highly developed customer relationship and stakeholder management skills including the ability to achieve commercial outcomes in a timely manner
Current Driver's Licence
Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC)
Desirable
Tertiary qualified in an appropriate discipline or relevant experience in a previous Senior Executive role within the maritime industry;
Experience in other aspects of marine and port operations, including landside operations, Asset and infrastructure management and logistics, and supply chain knowledge and
Experienced at improving operational and cost efficiency through robust operational systems review and process re-engineering and managing a profit centre with business up to $20 million turnover p.a.
