For more than 90 years, Cancer Council SA has been the state's leading cancer charity, working across prevention, research, advocacy and support to reduce the impact of cancer and improve outcomes for all South Australians.
We are now seeking an exceptional leader to serve as Chair of the Board.
This is a rare opportunity to lead one of South Australia's most respected and trusted community organisations at a time when strong advocacy, strategic leadership and effective governance have never been more important.
As Chair, you will guide the Board in delivering Cancer Council SA's mission, support and mentor the CEO, and help shape the organisation's strategic direction. Beyond governance, you will serve as a prominent ambassador and advocate, building influential relationships across government, the health sector, philanthropy and the broader community to advance meaningful policy and system change.
We are seeking a leader with:
- Significant board and governance experience, including previous Chair appointments or comparable senior leadership experience
- A strong track record influencing stakeholders and operating effectively in complex environments
- Demonstrated experience in advocacy, public policy, government engagement or strategic external relations
- Strong financial acumen and experience overseeing organisational performance and risk
- Exceptional communication, leadership and relationship-building capabilities
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for people affected by cancer
- Experience within the not-for-profit, health, public policy or government sectors, and AICD credentials, will be highly regarded.
The successful candidate will be a respected and credible leader with the standing, networks and influence to help advance Cancer Council SA's advocacy priorities and strengthen its impact across South Australia.
The Appointment
• Three-year term, with potential for renewal
• Honorary (voluntary) position
• Adelaide-based
• Appointment subject to relevant checks and clearances
