We're seeking a passionate and experienced engineer to join a highly collaborative environment where innovation, precision, and purpose come together. This is a 12-month maternity leave contract within a leading national research and scientific infrastructure organisation, supporting researchers across industry and academia with advanced technical systems and instrumentation.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading the design and development of advanced scientific instrumentation and hardware, including systems operating in specialised and controlled environments
  • Developing test, validation, and commissioning plans to ensure safe, reliable, and high-performance system integration
  • Solving complex engineering challenges through analysis, innovation, and structured risk mitigation
  • Undertaking advanced engineering analysis and simulation, including FEA and specialist modelling tools, to support design integrity and performance
  • Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary engineering, scientific, and operational teams
  • Supporting operational systems through upgrades, troubleshooting, and ongoing optimisation
  • Mentoring and guiding junior engineers, contributing to technical capability and team development

What You Bring

Essential

  • Australian Citizenship is essential
  • Willingness to undergo and obtain a security clearance
  • Degree or higher in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Proven experience delivering complex engineering projects from concept through to completion
  • Strong ability to translate advanced technical requirements into practical engineering solutions
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD and finite element analysis (FEA) tools

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams
  • Genuine interest in science, research, and high-impact engineering innovation
  • A proactive and supportive approach to mentoring and knowledge sharing
