About the opportunity
Working closely with the Senior Adviser, the Government Support Officer plays a key role in supporting the Government Affairs team as Australia Post embarks on significant network transformation. This includes coordinating and delivering stakeholder engagement, correspondence, risk analysis, and briefing materials across a portfolio of network changes.
What you’ll deliver with us
You will ensure that Australia Post’s engagement is timely, considered, and aligned with broader organisational objectives, with a strong focus on maintaining trust with government stakeholders and supporting a transparent and consultative approach to change.
You’ll also
- Support the coordination of Government Affairs engagement for network transformation activities
- Draft and manage high‑quality correspondence to and from MPs, Ministers, local government, and community stakeholders
- Support proactive and reactive engagement with political stakeholders, including coordinating meetings, briefings, and follow‑ups
- Maintain clear and accurate records of stakeholder engagement activities and emerging issues
- Coordinate inputs from community engagement processes, including feedback collected during consultation and review periods
- Support preparation for parliamentary appearances, stakeholder meetings, and high‑profile engagements
- Analyse stakeholder sentiment trends and provide insights to inform engagement strategies and decision‑making
- Identify emerging risks, sensitivities and opportunities, and escalate where appropriate
About you
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in political science, public policy, law, communications, or a related discipline (or equivalent professional experience)
- Strong organisational and coordination skills, with proven attention to detail and the ability to manage competing tasks, deadlines, and trackers across multiple projects
- Experience in a coordination, project support, executive support, or officer‑level role within a corporate, government, public affairs, communications, or community‑facing environment
- Strong drafting skills, with experience preparing clear and professional content (e.g. emails, letters, meeting notes, and short briefs) to support high‑quality correspondence and briefings
- Ability to build constructive relationships with internal stakeholders at varying levels of seniority and confidently engage external contacts, including MPs’ offices, councils, and community stakeholders
- Demonstrated discretion, sound judgement, and the ability to manage sensitive or politically nuanced information
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across functions (e.g. Stakeholder Engagement, Customer Communications, Media, Retail Operations, and Legal) to gather inputs, coordinate responses, and maintain accurate trackers
- Experience supporting meetings, briefings, and internal updates, including preparing materials, capturing notes, and following up on actions
