As we continue to grow, so too does our team. We are looking for the right candidate to take on the role of Mechanical Engineer. This is a Full-Time role with flexibility to be based out of our offices in Port Macquarie, Sydney or Perth.

Position Overview

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the application of engineering analysis and design, identification and reduction of technical risk, support ing the delivery of integrated design within shipbuilding projects .

Key Accountabilities

  • Mechanical system engineering design and integration activities
  • Development of engineering design and technical solutions to support project & production delivery
  • Identification and management of technical risk
  • Applying safety-in-design principles
  • Development of test, verification and validation plans for mechanical systems
  • Verifying engineering designs to confirm practical application in a production environment
  • Supports implementation of the design solution from production, through to product acceptance by the customer
  • CAD Drawings
  • Customer liaison and internal design meetings and reporting
  • Development of QA documentation
  • Project reporting for both internal and external stakeholders
  • Proactively promoting quality, environmental responsibility & safety within the workplace, encouraging an outcome of Birdon being a place of work by choice
  • Actively participating in the continued growth of the business.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Essential.

  • Tertiary qualifications at degree level in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • 3-5 years’ experience working for an engineering organisation in a relevant industry.
  • Experience working in an Engineering Design house, support to bids and project delivery activities.
  • Familiarity with common design software, simulation tools, and mechanical design processes and methodologies.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, identify work priorities in a constantly changing environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills across a broad range of stakeholders.

Desirable.

  • A working understanding of Commercial and Defence Marine Service Industry, as well as maintenance, service and Class compliance practices is highly advantageous.
  • Chartered Professional Engineering status in relevant discipline.
  • Knowledge of marine engineering and design principles, systems, techniques, and industry standards.
  • Ability to develop system documents, process standards, and high-level reporting.
