What You'll Be Doing

As a Technical Officer, you will perform a range of laboratory investigations and technical activities using established scientific methods and procedures. You will support both diagnostic and research functions while ensuring the delivery of accurate, reliable and timely laboratory services.

  • Performing analytical, diagnostic and technical testing using manual and automated laboratory methods in accordance with established protocols
  • Managing specimen handling activities, reagent preparation, data entry, stock control and laboratory workflow processes
  • Monitoring, interpreting and troubleshooting quality control results to ensure accuracy and compliance with laboratory standards
  • Maintaining, calibrating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment to support efficient laboratory operations
  • Collaborating with researchers, clinicians and laboratory colleagues while contributing to scientific discussions, research outputs and continuous improvement initiatives

Essential Criteria

  • Qualification: Certificate IV in Pathology or Diploma in Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution with subjects relevant to pathology or medical laboratory operations.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the area of molecular biology and/or virology, including practical laboratory experience (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, PCR, sequencing) and experience handling clinical specimens.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment whilst working autonomously to deliver results within specified timeframes set to meet client expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and competing priorities.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and proven effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external collaborators.
  • Proven computer literacy skills in Windows and the Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel.
